Rare Pneumonia ailment at BAGH
Twenty-nine year old Pankit Patel was diagnosed with a rare respiratory distress syndrome that occurs in one among crore pneumonia patients and was on the brink of death when doctors of a city-based hospital came to his aid. Doctors suggested an extra coporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) procedure as the last resort to save Patel's life.

After 19 days of ECMO and 50-day stay at the hospital, Patel was discharged from the hospital. Doctors at Bhailal Amin General Hospital (BAGH) where Patel was treated said Patel is only the 15th patient in the country and first in the state to undergo an EMCO procedure. The ECMO procedure replicates a dialysis, but for the lungs and is being conducted in the country only since the last four years.
